Ars Technica, 26 June 2025. The pledge, from Huffman: Reddit will stay "written by humans and voted on by humans".

Paraphrase of the rest: the bot fight is an arms race with no finish line, and the approach is to establish humanness without requiring real-name identity.

Why it is here: notice that the pledge has two halves. "Written by humans" protects E, the experience term. "Voted on by humans" protects C, the contested term. A site where humans write but bots vote is a site where the ranking is synthetic, which is almost as bad as the text being synthetic. The pledge covers both, which is why this formula has three factors and not one.

TechCrunch, 6 May 2025. Paraphrase of Huffman's announcement:

• Reddit will verify that accounts belong to people, to keep the site human as bots get better at sounding like people.
• The goal is proving you are a person without giving your name. Humanness, not identity.

Why it is here: the E term in HI = E × P × C is "experience that happened to a person". A bot has E = 0 by definition. If bots can post at scale, H gets polluted with S from the inside, and the ratio in the scarcity formula collapses. Verification is the defence of E.

The design constraint is the interesting part: pseudonymity is what makes people write the honest version. Verify the human, keep the handle.
